Toile (pronounced twahl) literally means canvas. Back in the day, illustrations of people and pastoral scenes were used to decorate fabric. This pattern was called Toile. It struck me as significant that humans have always found ways to depict themselves. That depiction is, in itself, inherently human. Now, we have cameras to record moments. These moments become things to be held and admired. As a result, they transcend time. Modern Toile was the perfect name for my photography business because it represents the tangible and the purpose; to stop time, to remember, and to cherish loved ones. |
